Fans Fear the Worst As Kate Martin Makes Cryptic Decision Following Cut by Valkyries

Kate Martin was waived by the Golden State Valkyries, and her latest social media activity has fans concerned about her future in the WNBA. The young two-way guard was drafted 18th overall in the second round of the 2024 WNBA draft. Miela Sowah, who was part of the Valkyries’ training camp contract, has already been signed for the team’s one developmental slot. And fans believed she might not return for another slot on the roster.

Martin’s Instagram bio mentioned both her team, the Valkyries, and the Unrivaled logo, but users noticed and shared the current screenshot of the guard’s account, with both names removed. A fan shared on X and wrote:

“Yeah I don’t think Kate Martin coming back for that last development spot…

She JUST removed Valkyries and Unrivaled from her ig bio”

Fans were surprised by the update, and many believed that she would not be back with the Valkyries. A user wrote:

    “ts got me fu*ked upppppppp”

Another fan was concerned for her Unrivaled spot and asked:

“so if players aren’t in the W they can’t be in unrivaled?!!?”

One more user highlighted the difficulties of playing in the big leagues and admitted that improvement was necessary. The fan wrote:

“Poe thang…she didn’t get a chance to work on her game with the injuries. One thing about the W, you gotta come back better every year because nothing is guaranteed.”

Another user suggested an alternative career path to the young star and wrote:

“She might just go overseas. The money is as good”

    One more user simply wrote:

“Kate Martin will still be my Valkyrie GOAT”

While several teams may be interested in signing the role player, Martin has seemingly decided not to return to the Valkyries. If no team makes a waiver claim on the guard, she would become a free agent, open to negotiate with any team. Several teams might look to hire her services, and the Indiana Fever and the Las Vegas Aces’ names are at the forefront.

Kate Martin and Caitlin Clark’s reunion might be on the cards

Kate Martin and Caitlin Clark were teammates during their college days at the University of Iowa. With the Fever’s change in offensive approach this season and revamping the roster, Martin might fit into the team. Her connector-type playing style and defensive tactics might lure teams to at least get her in as a developmental player.

Meanwhile, the guard position is heavily crowded in the Fever, including Kelsey Mitchell, Lexie Hull, Raven Johnson, Tyasha Harris, and others. The franchise has waived multiple players, like Megan McConnell, Jessica Timmons, and Kayana Traylor, and might look to add Martin to the developmental slot.

For now, Kate Martin has 48 hours since the Valkyries decided to waive her for other teams to claim her waiver. After that, she will be a UFA, allowed to join any team as she deems fit.
