“Come On Season”: Sophie Cunningham Sends Good Signs As She Locks In With Intense Training As Fever Free Agency Decision Emerges

As speculation intensifies around Sophie Cunningham’s future with the Indiana Fever, the free agent seemed to be in good spirits as she traded the hardwood for the hills. Cunningham posted a video on her Instagram account pushing through hill runs in a bid to get her fitness levels up for the new campaign.

“I know I’m wearing the same thing I wore the last time I ran, but there’s nothing like hyping yourself up when no one else is around. And I was like, do you have to make a video? No, screw that. I just did hills on a back road. And let me tell you, I looked over and there was like a deer staring at me. Big old breeze came through and I was like, yes, God. Like, be your biggest hype man, be your biggest supporter. F**k them. I also can see how it’s kind of contradictory, how I was like, God, and then I was like, f**k it, no. It wasn’t my God. And then, f**k them. That’s not anyone. It’s just like, and I probably shouldn’t because I’m working on testing. It’s hard for me. It’s like when there’s dessert after dinner, a lot of you can’t not eat it. That’s how testing is for me. It’s not like I hate the people. It’s screw everyone else’s voices, opinions, actions. Bet on yourself. Bet on the hard work that you put in and what you’re gonna put in. Like, do that and you’re gonna be successful,” SHE SAID

In the caption, Cunningham made it clear that her focus is on the new season rather than dwelling on the noise around her free agency decision.

“2 miles + hills. Come on season. Good signs, get that mind right,” she wrote.

Over the summer, the 29-year-old has been documenting her recovery from MCL surgery, which ended her first season with the Fever abruptly after just 30 games. Her offseason work looks to have paid off, leaving her with a positive feeling heading into the season.

Caitlin Clark Seemingly Hints Sophie Cunningham Could Re-Sign With The Fever After Lexie Hull News

The video of Cunningham comes just hours after her Fever teammate Lexie Hull announced she is signing a multi-year deal with the team. Hull posted a TikTok video with Caitlin Clark confirming her decision to re-sign with the team in WNBA free agency.

Clark, on Saturday, commented under Hull’s post announcing her return to the Fever, sending a message to Cunningham that seemingly hinted she may be next in line to re-sign in free agency.

“Hey, what’s up, wyd?” Clark commented under Hull’s post, tagging Cunningham.

Whether Sophie Cunningham re-signs with the Indiana Fever in free agency remains to be seen. But if Caitlin Clark’s recent social media activity is anything to go by, the Fever could retain her for at least one more season.

Those moves bring a sense of stability to a young team that has otherwise been surrounded by free agency and media storms. Last season, the Fever entered the season with less chance of making the playoffs but went on a historic run down the stretch to reach the WNBA semifinals.

ophie Cunningham has established herself as a core member of the Fever both on and off the court, and she’s excited for what promises to be a different season with new challenges in a historic year following the WNBA’s new CBA deal. Part of her success is her ability to be versatile and adapt to any role she’s given.

When the ball tips off on May 9 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, all eyes will be on the revamped roster in Indiana as they aim to make more history together.
