Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark struggled during Thursday’s game against the Golden State Valkyries. She and her team suffered a 90-88 loss on the road at Chase Center in San Francisco.
On Friday, analyst Robin Lundberg discussed Caitlin Clark’s struggles in a video he posted on YouTube. He highlighted how the two-time WNBA All-Star missed the bucket on several occasions that resulted in important turnovers for the Valkyries.
However, Lundberg did not entirely blame Clark for the loss. He highlighted how other star players on the Fever, like Aaliyah Boston and Sophie Cunningham, struggled to make game-changing plays. Lundberg also broke down several of Clark’s plays on the court.
“The Big 3 (Clark, Boston and Cunningham), all held in check by Golden State, and the Valkyries in Valhalla for this one,” Lundberg said (Timestamp- 0:55). “You know, it’s good to see that crowd, like, booing Caitlin Clark, and that crowd that Golden State generally has.
“With Clark, she didn’t really look all herself. Obviously, with that back thing (injury) going on. You hope that that doesn’t have anything to do with it.”
Caitlin Clark ended the night with 16 points, four rebounds and six assists. However, she completed 3 of the 12 field goals attempted while making two of the six three-pointers on the court.
The Fever star has been dealing with a back injury throughout the season. Before Thursday’s game against the Valkyries, she was listed as probable. However, she was later made available for the game. But coach Stephanie White confirmed that Clark will be listed as probable on future injury reports as the season progresses.
Caitlin Clark makes history despite disappointing loss to the Valkyries
Earlier in the season, Caitlin Clark made history by becoming the fastest WNBA player to hit the 1,000-point mark. On Thursday, she broke another record despite the 90-88 loss to the Golden State Valkyries.
With six assists to her name, the Fever guard became the fastest WNBA player to hit the 500 career assists mark. She did it in 59 games. The previous record was held by retired four-time WNBA champion Sue Bird, who did it in 82 games.
The Fever drafted Caitlin Clark with the No. 1 pick in 2024. Following Thursday’s loss, they have put up a 4-3 record, sitting in second place in the Eastern Conference.
On the other hand, the Valkyries have improved to a 5-2 record and sit in second place behind Lynx in the Western Conference.
