Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese have developed one of the fiercest rivalries in the WNBA. The tussle ignited between the 2024 WNBA draft class partners during the NCAA Women’s basketball championship game. Reese’s LSU defeated Clark and Iowa to grab the championship.
While Clark and Reese will make their debuts for the national senior team, they have already played for junior national teams. Let’s compare the two in terms of their performances as part of Team USA.
Caitlin Clark vs Angel Reese (National team stats)
Clark has been part of the national team several times in her junior career. She competed in the 2017 FIBA U16 Women’s Americas Championship, the 2019 FIBA U19 Women’s World Cup, and the 2021 FIBA U19 Women’s World Cup.
Clark’s best showing came in the 2021 FIBA U19 Women’s World Cup, in which she averaged 14.3 PPG, 5.3 RPG, 5.6 APG, and led her team to a ninth title. She was also awarded the MVP that year. In the other two appearances as well, Team USA grabbed the title in the finals. That means the 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year has earned three gold medals already.
Reese, on the other hand, was never a part of the national team at the junior level. However, she played in the 2023 FIBA Women’s AmeriCup in her first appearance on the national team roster. She averaged 8.3 points, 11.1 rebounds, and 1.3 assists, but the team could only manage a silver medal and lost the title to Brazil that year.
Meanwhile, Reese was named a finalist for the national team roster in 2018 and 2019 and was also a participant in the 2021 team trials.
While Clark is an offense operator and a playmaker, Reese’s presence on the glass is top-notch. The two will be a constant lob threat to opponents during their national stint in the qualifiers, which are set to begin on March 11.
Fans await the highly anticipated team-up on the upcoming USA basketball roster, as TNT Sports gets the media and broadcasting rights for the tournament.
