Fans have expressed that Caitlin Clark would be a potential market saver for Nike, as the company is currently struggling to sell basketball shoes, according to a report from Brian Windhorst.
The report also states that the reason for the decline in sales is that NBA players “aren’t as popular as they used to be. Fans gave their thoughts on the situation on X, claiming that Clark could help Nike’s sales, with some even labeling their utilization of the Fever guard as “malpractice.”
“RELEASE THE CAITLIN,” one fan said.
“Going into the 3rd season of Caitlin with no shoe release and they didn’t even release any merch until late 2025, A step slow with everything, then add in a change in consumer habits, basketball shoes in general becoming less popular as streetwear and moving towards performance,” another fan said.
“They have someone on their books who can help with that. Every time her PE has gone on sale its been sold out in minutes.Has been worn the most in the NBA. All whilst only being available in the US,” a fan wrote.
“There’s one player in another league who has shoes that would sell out if only they would release them,” another fan wrote.
“Meanwhile, they have totally and completely f***ed up the way they have handled Caitlin Clark. They have a f***ing unicorn on their hands and they can’t be bothered to really promote or push her. Crazy malpractice,” a fan commented.
Caitlin Clark’s first signature shoe with Nike is expected to debut next season
Clark signed an eight-year, $28 million deal with Nike in 2024. The deal saw her become a signature athlete for the brand, meaning that she will get her own line of sneakers.
Fans have long criticized the brand on social media for delaying the release of Clark’s first signature shoe. The wait could soon be over, with Nike announcing that the Fever guard’s signature shoes and apparel collection will debut in 2026.
According to a report from Hawk Central, the Kobe 6 Protro “Caitlin Clark” has become the NBA’s most worn shoe by minutes played since December, following its launch in November 2025.
