Caitlin Clark got a pretty special surprise on Sunday, courtesy of a fellow Nike athlete. Barcelona and Spain legend Alexia Putellas sent a pair of her new Nike Phantom boots to the Indiana Fever star, with the interaction leaving social media in a frenzy.
Clark shared the gift on her Instagram Story, posting a photo of the boots alongside a handwritten note (partly cut due to the quality of the photo) from Putellas:
“Seeing your talent and dedication is truly inspiring. Your hunger to improve every time you compete pushes me to keep raising my own standard, every day and every game… To share these boots with you, because we both (know what) it takes effort to push through the hardest moments… Keep shining, keep pushing, and changing the game. Thank you for raising the standard when it matters most.”
As soon as the Instagram Story went up, social media erupted with reactions from fans who loved seeing two global superstars connect across sports.
“Caitlin Clark being an inspiration to other athletes will never get old,” @ericaf455 wrote.
“A crossover never thought I would see,” @Keira4Walsh wrote.
“Yay Caitlin and Alexia!! This is awesome! Nothing brings ppl together like sports! 🏀🩷⚽️,” @rosa_medina said.
“Caitlin Clark and Alexia putellas, I’ve had pleasant dreams about this,” @donna_dapo said.
“Caitlin got the Taylor Swift fan base and now the Barcelona fan base behind her Game over 😮💨🤣,” @Lauren_UK1 said.
“the face of women’s football and the face of women’s basketball linking up. exactly goats,” @sixmoraltalez wrote.
Caitlin Clark also had some fun with the moment, joking that the gift might mean it was time for her to “come out of retirement,” a reference to her high school soccer career. Putellas quickly played along, replying:
“Okay… let’s play on the same team. Just in case.”
Caitlin Clark makes noise with new Kobe 6 colorway
Late last week, Caitlin Clark was back on the floor at the Indiana Fever training facility, taking part in a full 5-on-5 run. Videos and photos from the session gave Fever fans plenty to be excited about as it marked the first time Clark has been seen playing 5-on-5 and looking fully healthy since she suffered a right groin injury midway through the 2025 WNBA season.
Clark also grabbed attention for another reason during the practice session. Known for her love of the Nike Kobe signature line, she showed up wearing a new Nike Kobe 6 colorway. The mismatched design immediately stood out, and it did not take long for the shoes to go viral, catching the eye of both basketball fans and sneakerheads.
