Paige Bueckers had one of the greatest freshman seasons in college basketball history with the UConn Huskies. However, she was injured as a sophomore and missed all of the next season with another knee injury. In that time, Caitlin Clark grew into a superstar and helped bring all the attention to women’s basketball.
Paige Bueckers talked about battling injuries in college, on Sue Bird’s podcast “Bird’s Eye View” on Saturday. Bueckers talked about the growth in women’s basketball.
Bird asked how she felt about the season-long injury and how she was taken out of the limelight despite helping women’s basketball grow. She admitted that she was uncharacteristically jealous and envious about that.
“It just felt like women’s basketball just took the world by storm and rightfully so. And I felt bad because I felt, like, jealous in a way and I felt, like, envious,” Bueckers said.
Fans speculated that her jealousy stemmed towards Caitlin Clark, who was one of the major reasons for the hype for women’s basketball.
Paige Bueckers has led the Dallas Wings to a decent first half of the season. The Wings (18-9) are fourth in the league. After drafting Azzi Fudd as the No. 1 pick, Dallas coach Jose Fernandez had a lot of pressure to make the team work. Safe to say, they are on the right track.
