For over a decade, Brittney Griner has had a colorful career in the WNBA. At 35 years of age, however, the former Atlanta Dream center is closer to the end of her career than the beginning.

With the league’s free agency period in full blast, Griner has reportedly made a move that benefits her both personally and professionally. On Friday, reporter Terrika Foster-Brasby broke the news that the Connecticut Sun is “finalizing a 7-figure deal” to sign Griner for the upcoming WNBA season.

This is an interesting decision, as the Sun is reportedly set to be purchased by billionaire Tilman Fertitta and relocated to Houston in 2027.

As it so happens, Brittney Griner is a native of Houston. She played high school ball at Chester W. Nimitz Senior High School before spending her college years at Baylor, which is less than three hours away from H-Town.

While it is yet to be determined if the deal offered by the Sun spans multiple years, Griner appears to have laid out the beginnings of a retirement plan. When the 6-foot-9 center eventually decides to call it a career, she’ll have a loaded resume to solidify her legacy as one of the greatest WNBA players of all time.

In her pro career, Griner has earned 10 WNBA All-Star selections, six All-WNBA nods, and two scoring titles. Though the one-time WNBA champion saw her career getting somewhat derailed by her harrowing incarceration in Russia, Griner has nevertheless left her mark on women’s basketball in general.

Radio Host Takes Victory Lap After Predicting Brittney Griner’s Next Career Move

Meanwhile, a radio host is celebrating his successful prediction of Brittney Griner’s offseason move. Earlier this week, Nick Hamilton of SiriusXM had speculated on Griner’s next landing spot.

“It would be interesting if Brittney Griner didn’t resign with ATL, would she sign a 2-year deal w/Connecticut and ultimately play her last year in Houston as a member of Comets,” Hamilton tweeted.

After Foster-Brasby broke the news of the Sun’s offer to Griner, Hamilton reshared his tweet, as if to tell netizens, “I told you so.”
