“I Hate That About Us”: Paige Bueckers Gets Real About Dallas Wings’ One “Bad Habit”

Paige Bueckers has been one of the most consistent performers this season. Her contributions for the Dallas Wings have been instrumental in their progress. After a topsy-turvy start, the Wings have found the right momentum. They are fourth in the WNBA and are on a five-game winning streak.

They have often found the right gear during games to come back from a difficult position. And Bueckers has been at the center of most of those comebacks. She was asked about the surge that the Wings go through in such games. Bueckers called that one of the weaknesses for her team.

“It’s a bad habit for me and the team. If you watch a lot of our games, we’re trailing at the end of the third (quarter), and we’re starting off slow in the second half. And we have to find a will to win in the fourth. And I hate that about us,” Bueckers said.

“But obviously this league is like you got to find ways to win and it might be ugly. And to have this many games where we’re learning how to win in the fourth and learning how to execute during crunch time and clutch time. I don’t know. it’s a basketball experience to where you kind of black out sometimes, and you just get in this mode to where you just want to win so bad and as competitors you try to do everything. You don’t think about the pressure, you don’t think about the stakes,” she said.

Bueckers shared that she wants her team to dictate the game more before they turn up in the fourth quarter. She believes that every possession is a game in itself, and that the first 30 minutes are just as important as the end of the game. She wishes for consistency from her team throughout the game.

Why is Dallas Wings vs New York Liberty postponed?

The game between the Wings and the Liberty scheduled for Thursday in Texas has been postponed and will now be played on Monday at 7 p.m. CT. There were several travel delays for the Liberty as their plane experienced some mechanical issues.

That, combined with severe thunderstorms around both New York and North Texas, resulted in the travel problems. This will be the second game between the two teams in July. Dallas emerged with an 88-77 win on July 7.

Breanna Stewart led with 29 points as Sabrina Ionescu and Jonquel Jones contributed with 14 and 17 points, respectively. Jones also had 12 rebounds while Stewart had nine.

For the Wings, Jessica Shepard had an impressive triple-double with 22 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists. Paige Bueckers scored 15 points with seven rebounds and six assists. Azzi Fudd also added 12 points.
