On Sunday, Chennedy Carter had an awkward landing during the Las Vegas Aces’ home game against the Golden State Valkyries. In the first quarter, Carter went for a layup attempt that was blocked by Laeticia Amihere, who collided with the WNBA veteran and caused her to land on her hip.
After the Aces secured a 91-81 victory over the Valkyries, Aces head coach Becky Hammon was asked to comment on the status of Carter, who played no more than nine minutes in that game. Hammon downplayed any concerns that Carter would have persisting concerns as a result of her fall.
“Long-term, no, but I thought Chennedy was pretty banged up on that hip. She wasn’t moving right.”
From the looks of it, Hammon’s concern for Carter’s mobility was the reason that led to the WNBA veteran’s minutes being clipped for the rest of the game. Carter played just nine minutes and finished with six points, one rebound, and one block.
Heading into Sunday’s game against Golden State, Carter had been averaging 19.1 ppg on 64.6% shooting from the field, along with 2.6 rpg and 1.9 apg. After spending time overseas last year, Carter is now posting career highs in scoring and field goal percentage as a bench stalwart for the defending champions.
If Hammon’s assessment is correct, Carter will be ready to make up for lost time as the Aces take on the LA Sparks this Tuesday.
