Azzi Fudd was the first overall pick by the Dallas Wings at the 2026 WNBA Draft. This decision was questioned by many, as other great players, who might’ve been better suited for the system, were also available.
Fudd’s relationship with the Wings’ star Paige Bueckers was brought into discussions. But just three games into her rookie season, Fudd is proving the naysayers wrong. An interesting stat was posted online that highlights her value.
There’s no denying that Fudd was one of the best shooters in her draft class. Even though she doesn’t like to be labeled as just a shooter, her skills are undeniable.
Real App recently posted the top 3 highest midrange FG% in the entire WNBA this season. Fudd leads the chart over Bueckers and Rickea Jackson with 66.7%. Jackson is in second place with 54.5%, and Bueckers is in third with 50%.
The list was filtered out with a minimum of two midrange FGA per game. What makes this more impressive is the limited time that Fudd has been getting on the floor. She has come off the bench in all three outings.
She is averaging over 20 minutes per game for 7.7 points. Her overall field goal shooting is at 61.1% on six attempts per game. In comparison, Bueckers is averaging over 32 minutes and 11.8 field goal attempts per game.
Fudd’s fans aren’t happy with her coming off the bench. In their opinion, the No. 1 draft pick should get the starting role or at least, she should get more game time. So far, 24 minutes is the most Fudd has played in one game.
She scored 12 points with two rebounds, three assists, and one steal in that game. Head coach Jose Fernandez isn’t too concerned about the outside noise.
Azzi Fudd’s Head Coach on Limited Game Time
Head coach Jose Fernandez believes that there’s selfishness inside the team’s locker room and on the floor. After the loss against the Lynx, he called out his players during the post-game press conference.
“There’s selfishness in this locker room,” Fernandez said he told his players. “You gotta look in the mirror and be accountable on how you played. And don’t get upset if you think that you should have played more, or you didn’t play enough, or you didn’t get the shots that you think you should have gotten.”
Fernandez said that players who aren’t happy with their game time should instead focus on maximizing their output and try to help their team win games.
