Azzi Fudd delivered a disappointing performance in the UConn Huskies women’s basketball’ 62-48 Final Four defeat to the South Carolina Gamecocks women’s basketball on Friday, raising concerns about her case as a potential No. 1 pick in the 2026 WNBA draft.
Fudd finished with just eight points on 3-of-15 shooting, including 2-of-9 from beyond the arc. She also recorded five assists, a steal and two turnovers.
That outing, along with her inability to generate scoring and facilitate for UConn in a high-stakes game, was enough to prompt many fans to question her draft stock.
Ta’Niya Latson paced South Carolina with 16 points, while Agot Makeer contributed 14 off the bench, with support from Joyce Edwards (11) and Tessa Johnson (10) in the victory.
For UConn, aside from Fudd, the rest of the offense also faltered. Only Sarah Strong (12 points on 4-of-16 shooting) and Ashlynn Shade (10 points on 5-of-11 shooting) reached double figures.
Why Azzi Fudd Is a Potential No. 1 Pick
For the second consecutive year, the Dallas Wings secured the No. 1 pick in the WNBA draft lottery and will select first in 2026. This presents another opportunity to pair a top prospect with 2025 No. 1 pick Paige Bueckers.
When it comes to identifying a potential partner for Bueckers, many fans immediately point to UConn guard Azzi Fudd, who is also Bueckers’ girlfriend.
The Wings have multiple areas that require improvement. During the 2025 regular season, they ranked among the bottom five in scoring, finished second to last in 3-point percentage, and were tied for the league’s worst record at 10-34.
Fudd remains a proven scorer despite her semifinal struggles, averaging 17.5 points per game while shooting 45.5% from 3-point range.
Her offensive output would provide a significant boost for the Wings, particularly after the team shot just 30.4% from beyond the arc in 2025.
