Angel Reese Stakes All-Star Claim After Historic Outing Against Caitlin Clark and Indiana Fever

The Atlanta Dream picked up an impressive 113-96 win over the Indiana Fever on Saturday. With this, Dream forward Angel Reese made WNBA history. Reese recorded her 1,000th career rebound in the matchup, becoming the fastest player to ever hit the milestone in WNBA history.

It took the 2024 first-round pick only 79 games to reach the mark, ten fewer games than Tina Charles, who previously held the record at 89 games. This shows how outstanding Angel Reese’s career has been, and at 24 years old, she still has plenty of time to build on it from here.

She did that against her longtime rival Caitlin Clark, who finished the game with seven turnovers but still scored 26 points.

After the game, Reese, who finished the matchup with 18 points and eight rebounds, asked fans to vote for her in the upcoming All-Star Game.

Reese has had a strong start to the season with a double-double average of 15.1 points and 12.2 rebounds in the first 14 games of the campaign, which puts her well on pace to set new career-best season numbers.

Angel Reese well on her way to a third All-Star nod

It’s a small sample size, but the impact Angel Reese has had on the Atlanta Dream since joining from the Chicago Sky should be telling enough that she may very well get her third All-Star nod. Atlanta has gone 8-2 over their last ten games and currently sits third in the standings.

It should come as no surprise that Reese has been one of the reasons for the team’s success and has been incredibly effective too. She leads the league in rebounding and has also scored in double digits in all but one game.

If there’s one aspect of Reese’s game that stands out, it’s her rebounding. It’s something even casual fans notice. While critics talk about her shooting struggles, Reese has actually improved her field goal percentage to 42.9% on 5.2-of-12.1 shooting.

The Dream’s choice to trade for her is arguably the best acquisition the team has made in franchise history. Reese still has plenty of room to grow, and you can expect her to hold down the Dream’s frontcourt for years to come.
