FS1 analyst Emmanuel Acho believes Angel Reese is closing the gap on Caitlin Clark. When they entered the WNBA, Clark was the first pick, and Reese went seventh. The Indiana Fever guard was widely regarded as the better player due to her talent and skill set. On the other hand, Reese was viewed as a great rebounder and defender, but not someone who could lead a franchise as the centerpiece.
Acho was among those who believed so. However, after three seasons, with Reese playing on a competitive team like the Dream and winning more games than Clark in 2026, the former NFL player has changed his stance. On Sunday, while analyzing the Dream’s consecutive wins over the Fever on Thursday and Saturday on the “Speakeasy” podcast, Acho said:
“Angel, I think everybody slept on coming into the league for several reasons … got the jokes off here, got the jokes off there, getting no rebounds, can’t make no layups. But now, Angel’s gotten better … she’s not better than Caitlin, but she’s closed the gap.
“Caitlin was heads and shoulders above Angel. … To me, it was, ‘Don’t even bring up this conversation coming out of college. Don’t even fix your lips to bring up this conversation.'”
Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese have broken numerous records. Clark’s milestones have centered around scoring, shooting and playmaking. Meanwhile, for Reese, it has been her rebounding stats.
Both players have suffered setbacks, but for Clark, it’s been more drastic given the expectations. She’s the WNBA’s all-time leader in turnovers per game with 5.3 tpg. For her career, she’s shooting 40.9% from the field and 33.0% from the 3-point range, which is way lower than her college tenure. Clark shot 46.2% from the field at Iowa and 37.7% from long range.
On the other hand, Reese has maintained her rebounding and defensive efficiency. Her offensive production has dipped similarly to Clark’s, but her game on that end has evolved. Reese is a much better playmaker and someone who has learned to initiate the offense, which wasn’t what she was known for in her NCAA career.
Angel Reese finally gets consecutive wins against Caitlin Clark
Caitlin Clark held a 5-1 head-to-head advantage over Angel Reese in the WNBA. Four of the five losses Reese suffered came when she was with the Chicago Sky. Since making the switch to the Atlanta Dream, Reese is now 3-5 against Clark. The latest pair of wins came on Thursday and Saturday, in which Reese and her team dominated the Fever.
Reese had a 21-point double-double in Thursday’s 108-101 win on the road. At home on Saturday, she had 18 points and eight rebounds, as the Dream won 113-96. They were also the most efficient games she’s played after shooting a combined 15-for-28 from the field.
On the other hand, Clark individually fared well with 26 points each in the two losses. She also shot well, making 54.3% of her attempts. However, Clark averaged 6.0 turnovers, which significantly contributed to the losses.
