Caitlin Clark has had her fair share of ups and downs in the WNBA. After exceeding expectations in her rookie season, she was ravaged by injuries last year and was limited to 13 games. This season hasn’t been easy for her either.
Teams have targeted Clark on defense and guarded her with increasing physicality, often leaving her frustrated and prompting her to complain to the referees. Seven-time NBA champion Robert Horry had some advice for Clark.
“When you’re the best, everybody wants to knock you out,” Horry told Fox News Digital. I think a lot of people are going after her. For me, just play the game. I think I played with one of the greatest players ever, Shaquille O’Neal. He got hammered. I know he is bigger and stronger than Caitlin, but it got to a point where he started sort of fighting back. Someone elbowed you, elbow them back.”
“That’s the thing that you got to have to do. You think about some other players around that didn’t protect themselves and harassment went on. So my best advice is to protect yourself. Don’t let nobody punk you,” he added.
Caitlin Clark receives technical foul for losing her cool after referee’s decision
During the Indiana Fever’s game vs. the Chicago Sky on Thursday, Caitlin Clark thought she was fouled while driving to the rim. However, the referee disagreed and did not call a foul, prompting Clark to punch the air in anger.
She then received a technical for her reaction. Later in the game, Fever coach Stephanie White also received a technical foul when she protested a call against Aliyah Boston.
