“Why Is He Campaigning & Running His Mouth”: Fans React As Steve Sarkisian Takes Bold Shot at Texas Tech

Steve Sarkisian advocated for his team a lot in the 2025 season, saying that they should make the 12-team playoffs despite their 9-3 overall record.
A couple of weeks after throwing shade at Ole Miss for handing out degrees to student athletes, Texas Tech has now caught strays from the Longhorns’ head coach.

As per Anwar Richardson, Sarkisian pointed out that there is a team in their state that plays in another conference, possessing a schedule that he argues if he played in Texas’ twos and threes, the Longhorns would go undefeated and actually make the college football playoffs this year.

Texas head coach’s comments are a subtle jab at the Red Raiders’ schedule for the 2026 college football season.

“why is he campaigning & running his mouth this early?! Hes gonna have by far the most talented most expensive roster in the ncaa. Hes also got one of the best if not the best coaching staff. A blind limbless crazy orangutan on amphetamines could coach that team to the playoffs.” One fan reacted.

“Texas and OU are not in the Southeast but they are in the SEC. CAL and STAN are on the Pacific Coast but play in the Atlantic Coast Conf. When we went away from conferences that made geographical sense, it was always going to be unbalanced. This is a stupid comment from Sark.” another fan commented.

“My brother in Christ you guys literally were the ones who left that conference.” Another fan pointed out.

“Go look at your schedule last year, how awful you looked numerous times and lucking out at the end of games…worry about your own program that spends more money than anyone other than your other whining overrated coach at LSU.” Another fan bluntly wrote.

“Texas played this schedule for years and never did anything. He’s a drunk crybaby. Also has weakest schedule in SEC and can’t make the playoffs. Qb sucks. Defense is ass. Oline is horrible.” Another fan added.

“The same Steve Sarkisian that went 17-10 in big 12 play?” another fan questioned.

Steve Sarkisian Shares Honest Thoughts on Potential Playoffs Expansion

The potential expansion of the college football playoffs has been a topic of debate in the past few years, with the possibility of it turning into a 16-team playoff and even a 24-team playoff.
Many analysts, fans, and coaches express their frustration with the idea of having so many teams in the playoffs, including Steve Sarkisian, who spoke about the possibility at the Houston Touchdown Club luncheon.

Sarkisian said that if the choice were his, he’d go back to just 4 teams battling it out in the playoffs; however, he did add he understands why some people want to go to 24.

“But we are now in a world where fanbases are living under this umbrella of playoff-or-bust,” he said. “I don’t agree with that; that’s not true. You had the opportunity to compete for a national championship during those 12 regular-season games.”

Sarkisian further added that when it was just 4 teams in the playoffs, they were held in very high regard.
