Lance Taylor’s first year on the job at Western Michigan didn’t go so great, with the Broncos finishing 4-8 and ending the year on a two-game losing skid. Despite two non-conference juggernauts to start the year, Taylor’s second year offers a somewhat easier ride for the Broncos, as the Western Michigan 2024 football schedule features six MAC opponents the Broncos beat last time.

The Broncos start their season with a gauntlet on the road at Wisconsin and Ohio State. The Badgers won the last matchup in 2017 and are 4-1 all-time against the Broncos, with Western Michigan winning a non-conference game in 1988. It will be the second time the Broncos and Buckeyes have squared off, with OSU winning the first encounter in 2015.
After hosting Bethune-Cookman, a SWAC program in Daytona Beach, Florida, the Broncos round out their non-conference schedule with a third road game against a familiar foe in Marshall. The programs have met 34 times going back to 1954, with WMU holding a 22-14 advantage, but they haven’t met since 2004, Marshall’s last season in the MAC.
For its 63rd season in the MAC, the Broncos open conference against an opponent they beat last year in Ball State. They haven’t played their next three opponents since 2021, but they beat all of them, 45-40 over the Akron Zips, 24-17 over the Buffalo Bulls, and 64-31 over the Kent State Golden Flashes.

Western Michigan lost last year to its next two opponents, 24-0 at the Northern Illinois Huskies and 34-10 against the Bowling Green Falcons, but will end the year against two in-state teams it beat in 2023, the Central Michigan Chippewas and the Eastern Michigan Eagles, as they look to retain the Michigan MAC Trophy.
