“LSU Get The Checkbook Out”: Fans React As Former SB Champ Trolls Brendan Sorsby With Bizarre Idea

Brendan Sorsby’s injunction, approved by the Lubbock County Court on Monday, has turned the college football world upside down, with multiple fans as well as athletic directors expressing disapproval of the decision.

Many, from Georgia AD Josh Brooks “forbidding” his team from scheduling any meeting with the Texas Tech Raiders, to TV hosts like Scott Van Pelt and Rich Eisen, among others, have called out Sorsby for getting his eligibility reinstated despite the NCAA’s strict anti-gambling policies.

One such popular figure taking a jab at the seemingly lawless college football landscape was former Super Bowl champ and LSU wideout Tyrann Mathieu. Mathieu took to X (formerly Twitter), saying:

“Can I return back to college football? I only played 2 seasons, should have 2 more eligibility years left…. Can you find me a judge in Louisiana who can see to it that Honey Badger gets to finish his last 2 years of college football? Who’s going to say no ?????” (@Mathieu_Era)

Fans immediately rushed to the comments, making their opinions known on the former Tigers star’s dig at the Lubbock Court as well as the NCAA.

One fan urged the team to “get the checkbook out” for Mathieu:

    Another fan claimed:

One user claimed that new head coach Lane Kiffin would be delighted to have the “Honey Badger” on his roster:

Meanwhile, one fan tried to sway Mathieu to the Crimson Tide:

One user took a shot at Brendan Sorsby, saying:

Mathieu played for two seasons with the LSU Tigers back in the 2010 and 2011 seasons, winning the SEC Defensive Player of the Year award before heading to the Arizona Cardinals.

Brendan Sorsby Puts Out Statement After Win Vs. NCAA

While the Texas Tech quarterback has faced backlash from virtually everyone in the college football world, Sorsby took to social media to express gratitude for getting his eligibility reinstated for the upcoming season.

    Sorsby said:

“I’m very grateful for the endless support I have received throughout this entire process. I am also grateful for the chance to rejoin my teammates. This opportunity comes with the responsibility to remain focused on my personal growth, the ability to learn from this experience, and to be able to use my situation to help others going forward.”

While Sorsby has been granted permission to return to the field after serving his suspension vs. Abilene Christian and Oregon State, multiple Big 12 ADs have reportedly had talks to cancel their scheduled matchups vs. Texas Tech this season.

The NCAA is also reportedly set to challenge the court’s decision, maintaining Sorsby should be permanently banned from college athletics.
