Coach Todd Bowles Minces No Words on Deion Sanders’ Son Shilo’s Chances of Making Final Roster

Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders’ son, Shilo Sanders, is not the biggest star in his family. His brother, quarterback Shedeur Sanders, was a top prospect in the 2025 NFL draft before going on a historic draft slide and getting selected by the Cleveland Browns in the fifth round.

As a result, Shilo is used to being an underdog. After not getting selected in the 2025 NFL draft, he signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent. His spot on the roster this season is nowhere close to guaranteed, but he has been working hard to ensure he gives himself the best possible chance.

On Saturday, Bucs head coach Todd Bowles spoke about Shilo’s chances of making the team’s final roster. One of these quotes was posted on Instagram by the “Football Forever” account.

“He’s coming along. He’s getting the scheme down. He’s made plays like everybody else back there,” Todd Bowles said.

“There are a few tests that come up during the preseason — Tuesday night was one, and the other three preseason games and practices will be others. He’s got a chance to make it,” he added.

Todd Bowles Comments on Deion Sanders Visiting Shilo Sanders at Tampa Bay Buccaneers Training Camp

It is nearly two weeks into Tampa Bay Buccaneers training camp. In that time, Shilo Sanders has done a good job of establishing himself as a threat to make the roster. Early in camp, Deion Sanders traveled to Tampa to visit Shilo at training camp.

“Had to visit Tampa to see Shilo Sanders,” Deion Sanders wrote.

Bowles was later asked about Coach Prime’s visit at a media availability last week. He did not have an issue with it, saying it was like any other parent coming to watch their kid at the camp.

“He came to visit his son; he didn’t come to visit me,” Bowles said. “He strictly came to see Shilo. I guarantee you he didn’t come to see me. Not that I don’t like him, but he’s a father going to visit his son. Who wouldn’t be proud to have their son trying out in the NFL?”

It is still a little over a month away until the start of the NFL regular season. However, the Bucs will play their first preseason game on Saturday, Aug. 9 against the Tennessee Titans. There, Shilo Sanders could get his first taste of NFL action.
