Texas State 2024 Football Schedule: Is There a Path to Sun Belt Success for the Bobcats This Fall?

The Texas State 2024 football schedule is more favorable than the Bobcats' eight-win campaign last fall. Can they turn that into Sun Belt success?

Following a season that was their best since joining the FBS, the Texas State Bobcats were gifted a remarkably favorable schedule for 2024.

Featuring seven home games and a neutral location for one of its five road contests in 2012, the Texas State 2024 football schedule is the fifth-easiest strength in the Sun Belt based on CFN’s Strength of Schedule metric. Coming off the program’s first bowl invitation and win last year, let’s look at the Texas State 2024 football schedule.

The Bobcats’ first three games of the season will be played at home in the recently renamed UFCU Stadium against Lamar, UTSA, and Arizona State. While 2011 was the last time Texas State faced Lamar — an FCS program from Beaumont, Texas — the Bobcats and Roadrunners have played five times since 2012, including a 20-13 loss for the Bobcats in San Antonio last year. UTSA is 5-0 in football against Texas State.

After its first-ever meeting on the gridiron with Arizona State, Texas State will meet an old foe in Sam Houston State at a neutral site, NRG Stadium in Houston. As former Lone Star Conference and Southland Conference members, the Bobcats and Bearkats have played 87 times since 1915. Texas State owns a 50-37 advantage in the series, but Sam Houston State won the last one in 2011, 36-14.

Texas State will host two conference opponents it lost to on the road last season: Troy (31-13), Louisiana (34-30), and Arkansas State (77-31). The 77 points allowed to the Red Wolves were the most scored on the Bobcats in the program’s history.

The matchup with Old Dominion will be the first-ever between the two programs, with the Monarchs joining the Sun Belt in 2022. Three of the Bobcats’ last four opponents are teams they beat last season — ULM (21-20), Southern Miss (50-36), and South Alabama (52-44). The Bobcats haven’t faced Georgia State since 2021, with the Panthers winning 28-16.
