Louisiana-Monroe was able to pull in, historic head coach, Terry Bowden in 2021 with one of the lowest salaries in college football.

Terry Bowden is in his third year as head coach of the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks. After joining the program in 2021, he led the Warhawks to back-to-back 4-8 seasons in his first two years.

In December 2020, Terry Bowden accepted his current role as head coach at Louisiana-Monroe, a member of the Sun Belt Conference. He was given a base salary of $360,000 per year.

The university also offers a $50,000 bonus if the Warhawks reach six wins and accept a bowl bid.

The ULM Athletic Foundation also provides additional bonuses available to Coach Bowden. Those include:

  • $55,000 for 7 regular season wins
  • $60,000 for 8 regular season wins
  • $70,000 for 9 regular season wins
  • $80,000 for 10 or more regular season wins
  • $50,000 for 1 win versus a Power 5 team
  • $100,000 for 2 wins versus a Power 5 team
  • $50,000 for Sunbelt Conference Championship Game appearance
  • $75,000 for Sunbelt Conference Championship Game win
  • $100,000 for New Year’s Six Bowl appearance
  • $10,000 for being named Sunbelt Coach of the Year

All incentives and bonuses are contingent upon the football team maintaining an Academic Progress Rate (APR) at or greater than 940.

Bowden’s contract also includes other benefits such as an annual housing allowance, a cell phone allowance, a vehicle allowance, tickets to home football games and other ULM athletic events, and a country club membership.

Bowden’s current contract runs through December 2024.

There are conflicting reports of Bowden’s net worth, but most put him in the $1 million to $7 million range. His earnings have mostly come from coaching roles, having previously spent time at Salem College, Samford, North Alabama, Akron, Clemson, and most notably Auburn.

He also spent about a decade in the broadcasting booth.
