Taylor Fritz Makes Feelings Crystal Clear With Living In The Shadow Of Rafael Nadal-Roger Federer-Novak Djokovic Era

World No. 7 Taylor Fritz is currently playing as the top seed at the Dallas Open. Fritz defeated countryman Sebastian Korda in a grueling three-set quarterfinal on Friday night to advance to the semifinals and keep his hopes alive of winning silverware on home soil this season.

While Fritz has been dominating on the court in Dallas, he has been hosting his exciting Twitch streams off it, where he shares his honest opinions on the latest developments in the sport and answers intriguing fan questions. In the latest stream, Fritz shared his thoughts on the comparison between the past and present eras of men’s tennis, a hot topic of debate in recent years.

“I think it’s a very popular opinion online to say that we’re in a weak generation, or the top 10 back then was stronger. I think there’s a big nostalgia factor to it. I personally don’t think… It’s tough to say. I would say the level’s pretty close, honestly. It’s really tough to say,” Fritz said.

“But the best way to put it is I also beat top 10 players when I was 20 years old, so that was eight years ago, and I know that I’m way, way, way better than I was then. I don’t think there’s a discrepancy in level. I think it probably stays pretty similar,” he added.

Her stern opinions come at a time when the 38-year-old Serb Novak Djokovic reached the finals of the Australian Open, beating Lorenzo Musetti and Jannik Sinner on the way. At the same time, the American had a terrible Australian swing, losing consistently in the United Cup and then a fourth-round match against Musetti at the Grand Slam in Melbourne.

Fritz is desperately hoping to find some rhythm with his gameplay and start winning some silverware on the ATP circuit. The Dallas Open seems the best way for Fritz to get back to winning ways and improve his ATP ranking, thereby challenging some top names ahead of the Masters 1000 events.

Taylor Fritz Set to Face Veteran Marin Cilic in the Semifinal of the Dallas Open

Fritz was pushed to the limits by Korda in the quarterfinals, with the 28-year-old winning the match in a third-set tiebreaker. Now, the former US Open finalist is set to face veteran Croat Marin Cilic in the semifinals of the Dallas Open on Saturday.

After the ATP 500 event in Dallas, Fritz is set to play an ATP 250 event in Delray Beach, making it back-to-back events on home soil before the first Masters 1000 event at Indian Wells, starting on March 2.
