Patrick Mouratoglou Slammed for Disrespecting Novak Djokovic As Fans reject ‘Nothing Extraordinary’ Claim

Veteran tennis coach Patrick Mouratoglou is known for being quite vocal regarding his opinion on topics regarding tennis. Recently, Mouratoglou shared his thoughts regarding 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic, which drew disapproval of many fans.

In an episode of the High Performance podcast, Mouratoglou gave his honest take on Novak Djokovic. The 55-year-old spoke at length about how the Serb has maintained his prime for so many years while also stating that there was ‘nothing outstanding’ about the Serb.

“If you think of Novak, I mean, he does everything well, but he doesn’t have anything outstanding. And he’s the greatest of all times, because he has this extra thing that makes him really different in terms of, he wants to dominate, he wants to be the best,” said Mouratoglou.

The comment was met with a strong reaction from Djokovic fans. They quickly voiced their angst over his comments and fired back, defending the Serb as the best at everything, which is why he was a 24-time Grand Slam champion.

“Phrasing it in a different way would make this a more respectful take towards Djokovic,” a fan commented.

“He is the best player of all time, and there is nothing to argue about. The new generation is nowhere near Novak, Federer, and Nadal,” another fan commented.

“Strongly disagree with his statement, if it’s that so, he has the map give it to any player and see if they manage to do it..Only Carlos has that potential,” yet another fan commented.

Patrick Mouratoglou Claims Carlos Alcaraz as ‘Superior’ While Novak Djokovic as the ‘Strongest Competitor’

Mouratoglou had earlier given his prediction in favor of Djokovic to beat Carlos Alcaraz in the Australian Open final. While one fan pointed out the irony, stating that the French coach had earlier said the Spaniard was superior to prime Djokovic, Mouratoglou clarified his statement in a separate social media post.

“I said that tennis-wise, I believe that Carlos is superior because tennis evolves, but a tennis match (and even less a GS final) is not only about tennis but more about mental. Novak is the strongest competitor in history, and his motivation is back!” Mouratoglou wrote.

This was not the first time Mouratoglou was criticized for his unbiased opinions. After the Women’s singles final, he made a stunning observation about Elena Rybakina’s celebration that drew unnecessary criticism from tennis fans.
