Serbian tennis legend Novak Djokovic slammed rapper Drake over the Canadian musician’s rap beat whose lyrics claimed that he could beat Serena Williams in a tennis match. The 24-time Grand Slam champion did not mince his words when asked if the rapper has any chance of beating the ‘GOAT’ of female tennis.
Serena Williams and Drake have had a controversial relationship in the past that dates back to the year 2011 and went on and off until 2015. Despite them being on good terms, the publicity surrounding their relationship often took wild turns, and it was during this time that Drake released a song titled “Worst Behavior,” which was part of the album “Nothing Was the Same.” Released in 2013, Drake claimed in the song that he could beat Williams in a tennis match if she played with her left hand.
The claim drew massive backlash when it was released and has once again resurfaced during an interview with Djokovic at the French Open, where he was asked to give his opinion on the claim. The Serbian held no punches as he handed the rapper a brutal reality check and conveniently shut down the hip-hop icon’s wild claims.
“None, absolutely none. Drake that I know is a great sports fan, a tennis fan, but gotta put in more years of training to actually be able to play the GOAT of women’s tennis,” said Djokovic speaking to the ‘Broadcast Boys’.
In the past, Drake has occasionally taken shots at Williams, taking an indirect jab at the tennis star when he called her husband, Reddit’s cofounder Alexis Ohanian, a “groupie” in his song titled “Middle of the Ocean.” Ohanian, however, won hearts for his response as he shut down the rapper with a family-focused clapback tweet, where he emphasized his role as a husband and father and called himself proud of being their “groupie.”
Novak Djokovic Talks About His Love for Air
In the aforementioned interview, Djokovic also spoke about his relationship with nature and which element he most relies on.
Djokovic completely admired the question and spoke about “air” being his thing, while also highlighting how much of a love-hate he has with wind that has a lot of effect in tennis:
“That’s a great question, a good one. I would say I’m an air element, but I do have a love and hate relationship with the wind. I love the wind, but not on the tennis court.”
Djokovic is currently in prep for another Wimbledon run, and it remains to be seen if he can finally achieve the 25th Grand Slam title that has proved very elusive.
