Naomi Osaka recently weighed in on how difficult it was for her to manage her appearance at the Met Gala 2026 and her tennis tournaments at the same time. The fashion event took place on May 4 in New York City.

Osaka is currently competing at the Italian Open, where her opening match was on May 8 against Eva Lys at the BNP Paribas Arena. The Japanese player produced a dominant display of her skills, securing a 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 victory and advancing to the round of 32. She is now scheduled to compete against Diana Shnaider on May 10.

Just before this tournament, the World No. 16 participated in the Madrid Open, where her journey ended on April 27 after losing to Aryna Sabalenka in the round of 16. Between her transition from the Madrid Open to the Italian Open, Osaka managed to appear at the Met Gala, and recently during her Italian Open press conference, she was asked about how difficult it was for her to manage the Madrid to Met Gala to Rome jet lag run.

    Responding to this, she said:

“Yeah, I mean, I knew I would have to do that. For me it’s something that is not once in a lifetime, but it’s just a really fun thing. I really love fashion. That’s, like, the Grand Slam for all fashion. Just to put myself out there and try to socialize, you know,” said Naomi Osaka.

Osaka turned heads at the Met Gala with her two-part look designed by London-based designer Robert Wun.

Apart from her tennis heroics, Naomi Osaka has also made a name for herself for her fashion choices. After the 2026 Australian Open jellyfish outfit, she once again garnered attention for her unique style at the 2026 Met Gala. In her two-part look, she initially wore a white balloon-sleeved coat, which also looked like a dress with small red feathers on it, representing injuries or blood on the fabric.

As soon as she reached the Met steps, the outer coat was removed, revealing a stunning red fitted dress constructed with beadwork. Talking about this stunning outfit during her conversation with Vanity Fair, she said:

“It’s like a shedding of an outer skin. “I feel like [what I do] is very unique. There are so many different individuals out there, and obviously, what I like, some people don’t like, and what some people like, I don’t particularly like. It’s weird. I would call myself very introverted and shy, but in [fashion] moments, I don’t feel shy at all. It doesn’t freak me out,” said Naomi Osaka.

Naomi Osaka opened her 2026 season at the Australian Open, where she fell short of progressing further than the third round as she had to forcefully retire mid-tournament due to a recurring left abdominal injury.
