World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz aims to redeem himself at the Miami Open after a surprising semifinal loss at Indian Wells last week. The Spaniard, who has two titles so far, lost his first match of the season against Daniil Medvedev at the BNP Paribas Open and now holds a 16-1 overall record.
Placed in the top half of the main draw, Alcaraz will begin his run in Miami, FL, from the second round, having received a bye in the first round. He is scheduled to play his second-round match on Thursday, with his opponent still undecided as the qualifiers and first-round matches in Miami are still underway.
While Alcaraz is expected to have smooth sailing in the event, he could potentially face a tricky opponent in the second round itself. Young Brazilian talent Joao Fonseca can pose a threat to the Spaniard in his opening match of the tournament.
Alcaraz could then face Sebastian Korda in round 3 and Karen Khachanov in the fourth round. The opponent list will get slightly tricky for the Spaniard post the round of 16, as he could potentially face Taylor Fritz, Jack Draper, or Casper Rudd in the quarterfinals, then set up a mouthwatering clash with Lorenzo Musetti or Alex de Minaur in the semifinals.
Arthur Fils and Valentin Vacherot could be the surprise semifinalists should they cause some major upsets. After the semifinal stage, the fans could finally see a Sincaraz final in Miami, with Daniil Medvedev, Ben Shelton, Alexander Zverev, and Felix Auger-Aliassime being the other potential candidates to reach the summit clash from the bottom half.
Carlos Alcaraz Shared Golfing Highlights Alongside Djokovic and Zverev at Indian Wells
While Alcaraz prepares to switch coasts and travel to Florida for the Miami Open, he shared some delightful highlights off the court at Indian Wells on social media. In the post, the Spaniard can be seen relishing the golfing mania alongside Zverev and Novak Djokovic. Alcaraz also enjoyed some barbecue and a clean, peaceful night in the California Desert Sun.
The reigning Australian Open champion would be itching to get back on court and avenge his semifinal loss at Indian Wells by making a deep run in Miami, possibly contending in the final for his maiden Masters 1000 title of the new season.
