Naomi Osaka has recently revealed her stance on AI, stating that she prefers not to use it at all, mainly due to environmental concerns, as she wants to contribute towards saving water. Her remarks quickly caught attention across the tennis community, with figures like Martina Navratilova sharing their reactions.

Osaka is currently in Rome competing at the Italian Open and has made a strong start to her campaign. She defeated Eva Lys 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 in a hard-fought opening match and followed it up with a dominant 6-1, 6-2 win over Diana Shnaider to secure her place in the fourth round.

While speaking to the media during the tournament, Naomi Osaka was asked whether she finds it “crazy” that tools like ChatGPT are now being used by players to analyze their opponents’ strengths and weaknesses. Responding to the question, Osaka said:

“I find it crazy because I don’t use Chat GPT at all, but I understand that there are people who use it daily. I have heard that it consumes a lot of water, and I like the water we have on Earth, so I don’t plan on using it.”

Fans have now taken to X, with some expressing confusion over the logic behind the Japanese’s comments, while others have come out in support of her stance. Among those praising her is Martina Navratilova, who posted three clapping emojis.

    One fan wrote:

“Anyone who wants clean, available water and affordable energy would agree with her. The data centers are a nightmare, use extraordinary amounts of energy and water jacking up costs for consumers, fouling nearby water supplies, creating obnoxious noise and lights 24/7. JUST SAY NO.”

“Haahhahahhahah i always say that theres something very unique and mysterious inside her head,” another wrote.

“Seems a bit much, and what’s weird is she doesn’t use ChatGPT at all but seemed to have known about the water usage. Anyways, her stardom is done now and she is reduced to giving woke, controversial quotes for tennis media,” one account posted.

“But she got on a private jet to come back from met gala,” another tweeted.

“Streaming videos use far more water than using chatgpt, this is the worst anti-AI argument,” another joined in.

Naomi Osaka Set To Take On Iga Swiatek In Italian Open 4R

Naomi Osaka is set to take on fourth seed Iga Swiatek in the fourth round of the Italian Open today. Swiatek is coming off wins over Caty McNally and Elisabetta Cocciaretto, and this will mark her fourth meeting with Osaka.

Speaking to reporters in Rome, Swiatek reflected on facing Osaka, recalling their iconic second-round clash at the French Open 2024, where Osaka nearly pulled off an upset. The Pole added that she will be more aware and better prepared this time around.

“She’s a great player,” Swiatek said in her on-court interview after beating Cocciaretto. “We’ve played a lot and (had) a really tough match at Roland Garros two years ago, so I know what she can bring and how well she can play when she feels the ball. So I’ll prepare technically and I’ll be ready.”

The winner between Naomi Osaka and Iga Swiatek will go on to face either fifth seed Jessica Pegula or Anastasia Potapova in the quarterfinals.
