Iga Swiatek vs Naomi Osaka Italian Open R4 Schedule Sparks Controversy With Prime Time Snub: “The Actual F**k Is This?”

Naomi Osaka and Iga Swiatek, combining for ten Grand Slams, will face off in a thrilling round of 16 match in Rome, Italy, on Monday. Despite being one of the most eagerly awaited matches of the day at the Italian Open, it will not be held on the center court. Instead, the match is scheduled for the evening session at the BNP Paribas Arena.

The entire tennis fraternity, including some insiders, has taken exception to the scheduling and called out management for not explaining why the Osaka-Swiatek game couldn’t be played on center court. At the same time, someone like Sorana Cristea has her match against Linda Noskova scheduled there.

“Osaka Swiatek doesn’t get center court, but Cirstea Noskova does? Who made this schedule? The actual f–k is this,” one fan commented.

“Imagine having Swiatek vs Osaka as a Round 4 match and putting it on your second stadium,” another fan commented.

“Sinner day session Potential Swiatek vs Osaka (10 Grand Slams between them) not on centre court,” yet another fan commented.

Some other fans shared their general take on the scheduling of the round of 16 matches in Rome, with one trying to explain why the Osaka-Swiatek game wasn’t scheduled on center court.

“I really can’t understand why these 2 week-1000 tournements schedule all the last 16 matches on the same day,” one fan commented.

“Center Court evening Session and I get no Sinner and no Swiatek v Osaka you can’t make this up,” another fan commented.

“I think it’s to do with the timing of Pliskova Vs Siegmund. The winner needs to play Rybakina later, so cc as opposed to Iga vs Osaka, as they played earlier today,” yet another fan commented.

Naomi Osaka and Iga Swiatek Will Face Each Other For the Fourth Time on Tour

Fans and analysts eagerly anticipate this monumental showdown between two former World No. 1s. Their match at the Italian Open today marks their fourth overall encounter and second on clay, with the Pole holding a 2-1 lead in their head-to-head record.

Their most recent encounter occurred during the second round of the 2024 French Open, which Swiatek won in three sets. Swiatek has a 4-2 record on clay this season, while Osaka is 4-1; both players are eager to secure consistent victories on tour.

Today’s match is anticipated to be closely contested, with the winner potentially facing Jessica Pegula or Anastasia Potapova in the quarterfinals.
