Iga Swiatek Reveals Why She Is Not Willing To Change Psychologist Daria Despite Overwhelming Criticism

Iga Swiatek witnessed a significant dip in her form this season, leading to a harsh decision to fire coach Wim Fissette in March following the shocking first-round loss in Miami. However, Swiatek did retain her psychologist, Daria Abramowicz, giving way to criticism and conspiracy theories.

Experts like Rennae Stubbs questioned whether her mental coaching setup was still effective. Meanwhile, some argue that the mental health coach is manipulating the Polish star and having control over her decisions.

Swiatek has finally addressed the decisions she has made before the clay season. She answered why she showed loyalty towards Abramowicz and the rest of the team in the wake of changes in the coaching staff.

“In sports, if you want to go forward, obviously loyalty is great, but if something is not working, you need to react ’cause our careers are not long, you know? We don’t have time to waste time,” Swiatek said ahead of the 2026 Stuttgart Open.

“Yeah, the work that I’m doing with Maciej and Daria, also me playing with my hitting partner for many, many years, I feel like it’s working and it’s a good process. So that’s why I’m not changing the rest of the team. In Poland, it was super chaotic with media, so I just wanted to get it out clear so fans can also know what’s going on.”

Swiatek is scheduled to play Germany’s Laura Siegemund in the Round of 16 clash at Stuttgart.

Iga Swiatek Strongly Defended Daria Against Unnecessary Criticism

This was not the first time Iga Swiatek was asked why she retained her mental health coach, Daria Abramowicz. Earlier this month, she strongly defended Daria’s role in her team and slammed the media for making unwarranted accusations regarding the relationships between the two.

“I decide who I work with,” Swiatek said in an interview with Sport.pl. “And honestly, most of the negative things I saw somewhere—I try not to read into it, but something’s getting through to me—were just fake news and theories made up to cause confusion.

“Regarding the articles about Daria, for years she was credited with my success on the court, as it was possible thanks to, among other things, mental strength, and now, with the decline in form and results, suddenly she is to blame.”

Swiatek hired Daria back in 2019 when she was ranked outside of the top 150. She reached the peak of her tennis career with the psychologist, winning six Grand Slams and also the 2023 WTA Finals.
