“If Serena Williams Was White, You Wouldn’t Be Complaining” – Fans Defend American After Arsenal Soccer Stars’ Controversy On Women’s Day

Serena Williams was the most-mentioned player among Arsenal soccer players when asked to name the most inspirational female athlete in sports on International Women’s Day. Myles Lewis-Skelly, David Raya, Bukayo Saka, Cristhian Mosquera, Eberechi Eze, among others, named the 23-time Grand Slam champion as the most inspirational female sportsperson of all time.

While most tennis fans praised the Arsenal squad for recognizing and naming true greatness in the former World No. 1, they also took issue with some of the comments on the post, complaining that the players chose Williams in their responses. Additionally, fans questioned some rush judgments that claimed it was an easy answer by the players or that they had heard of other legendary players like Steffi Graf.

“If Serena Williams were White, guys wouldn’t be complaining,” one fan commented.

“I don’t understand why people in the quotes are angry because they mentioned Serena. She is one of the most inspirational female sportspersons of all time. People need to stop being upset about this video and get a life,” another fan commented.

“Some of the quotes… God forbid Black players pick a black woman,” yet another fan commented.

Fans continued to target the select few who were still complaining about the players’ choice, naming Williams as their answer, calling them naive for not knowing other legends of the sport, and stating that Williams had become a very routine answer to such questions.

“If Serena were White, I promise you the people in the quote tweets wouldn’t be angry,” one fan commented.

“Quotes outrage about them picking Williams as if she isn’t literally THE goat. They don’t have to choose an Arsenal player,” another fan commented.

“People really don’t understand how massive a female athlete Serena Williams is. You see it as a “default” answer because YOU don’t care about her,” yet another fan commented.

While Serena Williams remains one of the most successful female tennis players, the most significant rumor circulating is whether the 23-time Grand Slam champion will return to the sport this year. Fans, analysts, and now even some top active players are weighing in on the discussion.

Serena Williams’ Potential Tennis Comeback Earns Comments From Novak Djokovic

In a pre-tournament interview at Indian Wells, Novak Djokovic was asked to reflect on his thoughts on the raging rumors about Serena Williams’ potential comeback to active tennis.

“I think she’s coming back. I don’t know. I haven’t spoken to her, but I guess the sentiment is that she’s coming back,” Djokovic said.

“Where and how, singles, doubles, we don’t know, and if I’m in her position, I would hide it too. Everybody is excited, and it’s definitely something that’s very highly anticipated. I pick that one as well as her comeback. I don’t know. I think she might maybe play a doubles tournament or two with Venus,” he added.

“That would be nice to see, just from my point of view and tennis fans’. She’s one of the greatest athletes, really. It would be great to have her back, too,” Djokovic concluded.

Whether Williams makes a comeback soon remains to be seen, but till the tennis fraternity gets to know something affirmative and conclusive on the topic from the legend herself, everyone will be waiting impatiently at the edge of their seats.
