Coco Gauff has reached the semifinals of the 2026 Miami Open and her mother Candi Gauff’s post-game reaction explains what the win meant to the American pro and her camp.
Gauff, who has struggled to keep up with top 20 opponents this season, managed to beat World No. 12 Belinda Bencic in the Miami Open quarterfinals. Gauff won the match in three sets, 6-3, 1-6, 6-3.
After Gauff won the match point, she had her arms up to celebrate. Meanwhile, Gauff’s mother, Candi, who was in the stands, was absolutely pumped up to see her daughter reach the first semifinals of a tournament in 2026. She jumped out of her seat and made a loud roar.
This was Gauff’s first-ever semifinal appearance at the Miami Open. Previously, she has never advanced beyond the Round of 16 in this particular Masters tournament. She entered the tournament as the No. 4 seed.
“I honestly didn’t think I would be in the semis so I’m really happy and proud of myself,” Gauff said. “I think I proved a lot to myself this week, and I feel like with each match I’m getting better. Even though I’m still playing three sets, I feel like the level is getting better and better.”
Who Will Coco Gauff Face in Miami Open SF
Coco Gauff will next face Karolina Muchova in the semifinals of the Miami Open. Muchova reached the semifinals after beating Victoria Mboko, 7-5, 7-6, in the quarterfinals.
Notably, Gauff has won all their previous five encounters, so she enters this matchup with a healthy mental edge. However, Gauff doesn’t think she has any advantage.
“You don’t think about the head-to-head,” Gauff said. “There are so many matches that we play that could go either way. I don’t really think about it – especially when I play here, because I know how good she is.”
On the other hand, Muchova knows about the challenge she faces in the form of Gauff.
“I don’t have the best record against Coco, but I feel good,” Muchova said. “And you never know.”
Gauff will be hoping to win her first WTA title in 2026 but before that she would have to clear the challenge posed by Muchova.
