The world No. 1, Aryna Sabalenka, recently expressed her opinion on Coco Gauff’s approach to advancing in the next rounds at the Miami Open. The American tennis player reached the quarterfinal round of the tournament for the first time after overpowering Sorana Cirstea 6-4, 3-6, 6-2.
For the first time in the last two matches at the Miami Open, she won the first set with an early lead. Following the dominance, Gauff credited her victory to a fan, whose advice she followed from the Instagram threads.
The 22-year-old revealed that a fan suggested she stay close to the net more often. Gauff followed the advice and used a slice to draw Cirstea forward and finished with a volley winner.
Meanwhile, Sabalenka bested Qinwen Zheng to advance to the quarterfinals. In an interview after the faceoff, when asked what she thinks about Gauff’s approach, Sabalenka highlighted that she noticed more negative aspects than positive ones about herself on social media, so she prefers to ignore them.
“I mean, of course I see some of the things, but for some reason I see more negative than positive about myself. So I try not to really look deep and whenever I see my picture or something about myself. I go to the next one because, I don’t know, sometimes people just being rude and mean to all of us and I feel like it’s just not really worth reading and going through. But, well, if it helped. So maybe, I mean, we’re all different, right? So if it helped, and thanks for telling me, now I’m gonna be ready that she’s (Gauff) coming to the net”
Gauff will next face Karolina Muchova after advancing to the semifinal round.
Aryna Sabalenka Reveals The Reason Behind Her Successes At Indian Wells And Miami Open So Far
Aryna Sabalenka won this year’s first big title at the BNP Paribas Open after losing at the Australian Open final in January. She defeated the season’s first Grand Slam champion, Elena Rybakina, at Indian Wells. The world No. 1 recently admitted to making small adjustments to her racket right before the tournament.
“I feel like there is always going to be the moment where you feel like you can improve in these little, but not little, things,” Sabalenka said. “I was brave enough before Indian Wells to do small adjustment on my racquet, and I’m super happy that I did it.”
Aryna Sabalenka will face Hailey Baptiste in the quarterfinal round of the Miami Open in an effort to defend her title.
