Coco Gauff’s Ex-Coach Gives His Take On Jonathan Kuminga Reportedly Rejecting Lakers’ $20,000,000 Deal With Bigger Demand

Coco Gauff’s former coach, Brad Gilbert, recently reacted to NBA player Jonathan Kuminga seeking a contract worth more than $25 million per year in unrestricted free agency.

Kuminga entered free agency after the Atlanta Hawks declined his $24.3 million team option for the 2026-27 season. He had been traded to Atlanta from the Golden State Warriors at the previous season’s trade deadline. The Los Angeles Lakers have emerged as the leading suitor, but the two sides remain financially disconnected.

The Lakers have reportedly offered short-term deals, most recently a two-year contract worth around $10 million per year. They have also pitched the 23-year-old forward a guaranteed starting small forward role alongside Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves. However, the player is reportedly seeking more than $25 million annually.

Reacting to the reports, Gilbert shared his take on X, writing:

Gilbert was referencing Rui Hachimura’s two-year, $28 million move to the LA Clippers.

Apart from weighing in on the NBA free agency discussions, Gauff’s former coach has also been sharing his thoughts on Wimbledon. He recently reacted to Novak Djokovic’s form during the Grand Slam.

Coco Gauff’s former coach Brad Gilbert opened up about Novak Djokovic’s aggression on the grass court

Coco Gauff’s former coach, Brad Gilbert, recently spoke to Tennis Channel about Novak Djokovic’s performance at Wimbledon after he recorded his 106th men’s singles win at the tournament. Praising the Serb’s more aggressive approach and his level at 39, he said:

“I also feel like that when you get older, obviously physically you’re not the same. Maybe your movement isn’t the same, but the brain gets bigger. It allows you to make some decisions that you could do. Look what Tom Brady was doing at 45 years old. I mean, big George Foreman came back, won the heavyweight title of the world. So, I feel like that this court, even though it’s slower than it’s ever been, you’re still rewarded for playing aggressively.”

    He added:

“And so, I do think that come the latter parts of this tournament. Novak is going to have to up his power quotient. He won’t be able to depend upon just using his legs. And I think that’s why we are seeing more offense from him because I think he plans to incorporate that later in the tournament.”

Brad Gilbert recently also expressed his frustration over the medical timeout controversy involving Felix Auger-Aliassime.
