Coco Gauff, Ben Shelton, Iva Jovic, and other American tennis pros shared their hilarious reactions to Jessica Pegula teasing fellow American Tommy Paul after suggesting they should stop playing mixed doubles together. Pegula’s claims followed their poor doubles performance in various tournaments and Paul’s inconsistencies in singles this season.
Interestingly, Paul took the comments in good humor and responded, “Did I just get dumped?” Fans roared with laughter at Paul’s reply. On Wednesday, the official Instagram page of the Players Box podcast posted some hilarious one-liners on an image of the two players standing side by side, and other tennis pros couldn’t keep from laughing.
“Slide 3 is super uncalled for,” Sam Querrey commented.
“😂😂😂” Gauff commented.
“I am laughing out loud at this,” Jovic commented.
“I’m dead,” Shelton commented.
“Rip team P^2. It was fun while it lasted,” Madison Keys commented.
“Slide 3 🤣🤣🤣” John Isner commented.

Pegula and Paul entered multiple tournaments as partners in 2023, including Indian Wells, the Canadian Open, Queen’s Club, the Berlin Open, and the US Open. At the 2025 US Open, Pegula paired with Jack Draper, citing a scheduling issue, but was back with Paul for this year’s Eisenhower Cup, which, as things stand, will serve as their tournament together.
Jessica Pegula Suggested That Tommy Paul Pair up With Madison Keys
Pegula had recently reflected on the mixed doubles struggles with Paul while honestly hinting that the duo might not be the right doubles pairing on court. “Tommy Paul, I think we might be done. Tommy’s great. I think we all love Tommy here. But I don’t know if we are meant to play mixed together,” Pegula said.
“He was a little distraught because, besides making the one-year finals with Madi, he had lost in the first round the three other years. Two of them were with me, and then he also came from the MGM Slam thing they did,” she added.
“He lost the first round there. He said he got killed like 10-3 to Fritz. So he’s like I just really want to win these 10-point tiebreakers. I am so sick of losing these. He was like so upset,” Pegula concluded.
The reigning Dubai Open champion had suggested that Paul try pairing up with 2025 Australian Open champion Madison Keys for future tournaments. For now, both Pegula and Paul are gearing up to play their opening match of the Miami Open on Thursday.
