“I Get Annoyed” – Coco Gauff Gives Candid Response On Little Brother Codey Living Under Her Shadow As MLB Draft Nears

Coco Gauff advanced to the fourth round at Wimbledon with a three-set win over fellow American Claire Liu on Friday. Gauff dominated the first set, but Liu responded strongly in the second, pushing it to a tiebreak and winning it. In the final set, Gauff showed resilience, ultimately securing a 6-2 win.

After her victory, the two-time Grand Slam champion spoke at a post-match press conference, answering questions about her R3 win and her journey at Wimbledon. A journalist also asked Gauff about her younger brother, Codey, a switch-hitting baseball player aiming for the MLB draft, and if she’s proud that he’s known as the tennis star’s brother.

“It is funny, because they were announcing. And everybody was like, the son of… I’m glad that they can say, like, ‘little brother.’ Sometimes I get annoyed because it’s like, You don’t have to bring me up all the time. I have nothing to do with his baseball. I’m not going to lie. My brother’s not the most expressive person,” Gauff said.

“I read the article. He was saying like he really looks up to me a lot and watches my work ethic and things like that. I never heard him say that to my face, which he probably never will. It was sweet to hear that and know that, ’cause I do try to be a good role model for them,” she added.

Codey, an athletic switch-hitter known for his strong throwing arm, is committed to the University of Missouri. His participation in the combine suggests that Gauff might skip college if he is drafted early and choose to turn professional this summer.

Coco Gauff Admits She Doesn’t Actively Watch MLB Games

When asked by a journalist about predicting Codey’s future in the big leagues and which ballclub she thought he would be drafted by, the World No. 7 admitted she does not actively follow MLB until the World Series begins.

“Yeah, honestly, I don’t really watch the MLB too much. I’ve been to some games. It’s not something I’ll follow until the World Series. My brother, I go to his games when I’m in town. I go to all the ones that I’m able to go to. It is a bit of a slower, more boring sport. If he wasn’t playing, I don’t think I would be watching as much,” Gauff said.

“When it’s a good game, it’s great. I prefer to watch it live. I don’t know how I’m going to be doing when he goes to college. I don’t know what his situation actually is going to be. I guess it depends on his draft pick and everything. It’s my brother, so I’m going to watch,” she added.

Gauff will continue her journey at the All England Tennis Club on Sunday, when she faces World No. 11 Belinda Bencic in the Round of 16.
