Coco Gauff Goes Straight From Tennis Court To Hyping Up Serena Williams Within Minutes Of Wimbledon R2 Comeback

In one moment, Coco Gauff was enjoying her second-round win against Solana Sierra at Wimbledon. Hardly minutes after, she was in the comments section of Serena Williams’ Instagram post.

After tweaking her ankle in the first set and going down against Maya Joint in the first round of Wimbledon, Williams posted on Instagram about her return to the All England Club. She was happy that her daughter would take some important advice from her stint.

“It felt so good to be back on the grass at @wimbledon. I’m incredibly thankful for the wild card – and even more grateful my daughters got to see that it’s never too late to chase something you love,” Williams wrote.

The 23-time Grand Slam champion is day-to-day with a knee injury but is hoping to feature in doubles with her sister, Venus Williams, later this week. She also congratulated her opponent and appreciated fans for the support.

Interestingly, Gauff, who keeps Williams in high regard, commented under the post with ‘GOAT’ emojis right after she closed her second-round win in three sets on Wednesday:

    “🐐🐐🐐🐐”

Fans also took note of this, as two of them replied to her:

“you just won 5 minutes ago lol. vamos tho. hope you make the finals,” one fan wrote.

“just won and already on insta 😭” another commented.

Serena Williams is the Reason Coco Gauff Picked Up Racquet

It’s no secret Coco Gauff instantly reacted to Serena Williams’ post after her singles exit at Wimbledon. The two-time Grand Slam champion has repeatedly described Williams as her biggest tennis idol and one of the primary reasons she picked up a racquet.

For Gauff, the legendary Williams sisters were an example that someone who looked like her could succeed at the highest level.

“Serena Williams has always been my idol…and Venus,” she said in July 2019 after beating Venus Williams in her historic debut at the All England Club. “They are the reason why I wanted to pick up a tennis racquet.”

She reiterated that she started dreaming of tennis because of Serena when the 23-time Grand Slam champion supposedly played the final match of her career in the 2022 US Open. After almost four years, Serena made her return to tennis

Ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics, in her emotional letter, Gauff reflected how Serena had gone from being a poster on her bedroom wall to becoming a friend and mentor.

“Her profound impact on tennis, what it means to be a champion and to break barriers, is a legacy you hope to uphold and carry with you into your first Olympic Games,” she wrote.

The admiration is mutual, as Serena has also praised Gauff for her astronomical rise in tennis. She hopes to team up with Gauff in padel one day.
