Coco Gauff cracked the code of stealing the Italian Open fans’ hearts as she drove them crazy by mentioning Jannik Sinner’s name two times. The American is now gearing up for her quarterfinal performance at the tournament.
Gauff is currently producing strong performances at the Italian Open, where she has bested Tereza Valentova, Solana Sierra, and Iva Jovic, to advance to the quarterfinals. Her most recent contest was against Jovic, where the latter started on a strong note, winning the first set; however, the American picked up her pace in the next two sets and claimed a 5-7, 7-5, 6-2 victory.
Apart from her performance, another thing that caught attention was her way of stealing the hearts of the Italian Open fans. Mentioning Sinner’s upcoming match, she asked his home crowd for some cheers for him, and the fans burst into cheers during her on-court interview. She said:
“Grazie, see you in the next round and I know you guys are ready for Jannik Sinner. Can we get some cheers for Jannik? Ok ok. Wait. Can I have like just a little cheer for me too?” Coco Gauff said laughing.
In addition to this, she also posted a video on her Instagram story, where she was walking on a bridge surrounded by a huge crowd. Crediting Sinner for it, she wrote:
“We love a bridge walk after Jannik plays lol, glad they werent’ disappointed to see me tho🙂↔️”
Coco Gauff opened up about her performance against Iva Jovic at the Italian Open
After making her way to the quarterfinal of the Italian Open with a strong performance in the round of 16, Coco Gauff spoke to the media in the post-match press conference, where she weighed in on her improvements during her matchup with Iva Jovic. Opening up about her mindset during the game, she said:
“Honestly the starts have been fine. My first round I was up a break. Today I was up a break in the first. I think I was up 3-1, 30-Love, too. I think for me it’s more focusing on staying on top of the opponent when I do have the lead in the first set. I think it’s a learning experience. I’m not disappointed,” said Coco Gauff.
She added:
“I played two quality opponents, Eva being top 20. I’m not Jannik. I think I’m going to lose some sets. Obviously the goal is to definitely start those matches… I guess I’m starting them fine, but continue to close out the first sets so I don’t have to go three hours on the court.”
Coco Gauff is all set to lock horns with Mirra Andreeva in the quarterfinal round of the Italian Open.
