World No. 1 Jannik Sinner reclaimed the top spot after defeating Carlos Alcaraz at the Monte Carlo Masters on Sunday. With this win, the Italian has now won three consecutive Masters 1000 titles, while the Spaniard is left reeling to fine-tune his game and bounce back on home turf at the Barcelona Open.
While many had predicted Alcaraz would defend his Monte Carlo title, Sinner had other plans, outdueling the Spaniard on clay for the first time since 2022. One of the celebrities backing Alcaraz to win Sunday’s final was the owner of the luxury Italian hotel chain Cipriani.
The owner of Cipriani was present in the stands for the summit clash and even shared a pregame picture of the center court on his Instagram story, writing, “Sinner has no chance on clay. Alcaraz is just a diesel.”
After the match, the owner’s tone changed as he shared another story on Instagram, congratulating Sinner on the win and trolling Alcaraz for not showing the hunger or fighting spirit to defend his title with all his might.
“Congratulations to @janniksin. He wanted it more and was well prepared. Alcaraz simply didn’t care today. You can see on the outside the state of the inside. His haircut, his body language, he wasn’t fit mentally or physically. We never know what people go through, so don’t judge. Reset and come back stronger than ever before @carlitosalcarazz,” he captioned the story.

Carlos Alcaraz Can Reclaim the Top Spot From Jannik Sinner With the Barcelona Open Title
The Spaniard has a deficit of 330 points with Sinner in the live ATP rankings. While the Italian is taking well-deserved time off the tour by not playing in either Barcelona or Munich this week, Alcaraz has chosen to play in the former, looking for his second ATP title of the season.
Alcaraz is a two-time champion in Barcelona and had even reached the summit clash last year. The Spaniard is set to commence his journey in this year’s edition against Otto Virtanen in the round of 32 on Tuesday. Should Alcaraz win his third clay court title in Barcelona, he will earn 500 ranking points and reclaim the top seed from Sinner.
