World No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz had to miss defending this year’s French Open due to a wrist injury. The Spaniard has had a difficult clay season, losing the No. 1 ranking to Italian rival Jannik Sinner at the Monte-Carlo Masters and one match later hurting his wrist.
In the wake of his decision to skip Roland Garros this year, many are questioning Alcaraz’s discipline off the court. The six-time Grand Slam champion bought a luxurious yacht earlier this year, and likes playing golf and football as well. All of that was recently questioned by former ATP star Jacopo Lo Monaco on his podcast.
“Golf may have impacted Carlos. At this level, he must understand he has to make sacrifices,” Lo Monaco said (translated to English).
This didn’t sit well among fans, who are constantly hearing analysts chirping about what and whatnot Carlos Alcaraz should do.
“he can’t play golf, can’t vent to his box, can’t go on a vacation with his friends after slams, can’t even smash a racket… at this point they’ll ban him from breathing too,” one fan wrote.
“the standards for him are so high these journalists have to touch some grass 😭😭😭” another fan commented.
“Literally zero drama surrounding him so they don’t know what bulls*it to come up with. He’s a professional tennis player, injuries happen!” one fan reacted.
“So their precious manchild is supposed to be way more ‘disciplined,’ but he still expects us to buy that hilarious excuse for his failed tests? Lmao,” one fan added, taking an indirect jab against Sinner.
“Tennis commentators are shamelessly bad,” one fan wrote. “Let’s all remember that *multiple* articles and podcasts mantained that poor Holger’s Achilles’s rupture “was maybe the best thing that could happen to him” 🤦🏻♀️”
“People just need to shut up, he literally can retire now and be an all time great of the sport, nothing to prove missing 6 month every 2 years will not stop him from reaching his goal with a life he loves,” one fan wrote.
Analyst Drops Worrying Injury Detail of Carlos Alcaraz
Carlos Alcaraz played the first match of the Barcelona Open and after that decided to pull out from there and even in Madrid. A medical test made it clear to him that he needed to drop playing in the Rome Masters and the French Open, where he was the defending champion.
With the Wimbledon championship starting in only three weeks after the conclusion of the French Open, people are sensing worry for the Spaniard to get ready in time. Tennis analyst José Moron is among them. Moron also questioned why the exact diagnosis of the injury was not revealed.
“What doesn’t leave me calm is the fact that the exact diagnosis of his injury has not been revealed,” Moron wrote on X. “When he hurt his forearm two years ago, his team immediately clarified what it was. The current secrecy feeds rumors and speculation. When you consider that he announced his absence at Roland Garros a month early, it’s safe to assume that it’s a serious injury. The wrist is a fairly sensitive area for a tennis player and Carlos has to do everything he can to avoid relapses in the future.”
The latest injury will force the Spaniard to lose 3,000 ranking points at least, therefore, increasing the gap between World No. 1 Sinner and him drastically.
