Ben Shelton’s girlfriend, Trinity Rodman, is a global soccer star, playing for the Washington Spirit at the club level and the USWNT on the international stage. She donned the national jersey once again when the US women’s team played a friendly against Japan in Commerce City, CO, on Friday night.
While Rodman didn’t get on the scoresheet, the USA won 3-0, with Kennedy Wesley, Naomi Girma, and Rose Lavelle scoring. After the match, Rodman interacted with fans in the stadium and even gave away her signed cleats and jersey to some aspiring little girls who were cheering for the Spirit star.
An uncanny situation unfolded as Rodman was giving away her jersey and cleats, when the star forward posted an Instagram story narrating a distressing episode in which a male fan snatched and tore the jersey from a little girl’s hand. Rodman stated that she had already given the man’s daughter her match-worn cleats.
“The grown a** man that ripped the signed jersey out of a little girl’s hand that I gave to her and ran away… I’m sick!! Just know you ruined a little girl’s night and core memory. When your kid already got the signed cleat that I took off for her, not even 2 minutes before…,” Rodman wrote in her Instagram story.
The soccer star has had a slow start to her season but is fully capable of turning it around in a jiff, as she has in recent years. Rodman is an outgoing person who loves to support and cheer for her loved ones in their respective fields of interest, especially Shelton, who is set to play in his second final of the season in Munich on Sunday.
Ben Shelton to Face Cobolli in the BMW Open Final, While Trinity Rodman Enjoys Time at Coachella
Shelton will have a chance to win his second ATP 500-level title of the year when he takes on Falvio Cobolli in the BMW Open final in Munich on Sunday. On his way to the summit clash, the 23-year-old has just lost two sets, one each to fellow American Emilio Nava in the opening round and teenage sensation Joao Fonseca in the quarterfinals.
Meanwhile, back home, Rodman is making the most of her time off the busy soccer schedule as she departed for the Coachella Festival, which is being held at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California, with her brother, DJ Rodman, and some other friends. The Spirit star even shared a reel on her Instagram story while traveling to the festival.
It will be interesting to see how Shelton approaches the final against Cobolli at the BMW Open today, having a slender 3-2 lead in the Lexus ATP head-to-head.
