Amanda Anisimova Rushes To Console Mirra Andreeva After Russian’s Emotional Outburst In Dubai Open Heartbreak

Amanda Anisimova has offered Mirra Andreeva words of comfort after beating her in a closely-fought match at the WTA Dubai Open 2026. The two stars of the women’s tour locked horns in the quarterfinals on Thursday, February 19.

Anisimova fought from back a set down to beat defending champion Andreeva 2-6, 7-5, 7-6 (4). The teenager was left distraught after losing such a close battle, and couldn’t contain her tears after the loss.

The American was asked about her younger rival’s breakdown during her post-match conference. Anisimova empathized with Andreeva, and said it was natural to be upset after such a loss. She also added that the youngster should leave Dubai with her head led high, and if she continues playing at this level, then she will be collecting trophies sooner rather than later.

“It’s not easy to see someone that gives their all and then to react like that. It made me really sad for her. In my mind I was just thinking if she keeps playing like this, there’s a title around the corner for her. She’s going to have a great year,” Anisimova said.

Anisimova will now focus on her upcoming showdown with compatriot Jessica Pegula in Dubai. The two will duke it out for a spot in the championship round on Friday, February 20.

Amanda Anisimova To Face Jessica Pegula In The WTA Dubai Open 2026 Semifinals

Amanda Anisimova’s title defense at last week’s Qatar Open ended on an unfortunate note. After a first-round bye, an injury forced her to throw in the towel during her second-round match against former World No. 1 Karolina Pliskova.

Anisimova reached the third round of the WTA Dubai Open without picking up her racket. A first-round bye, followed by a walkover from Barbora Krejcikova, made her journey rather comfortable. She eased past Janice Tjen with a 6-1, 6-3 win in the third round, and then beat Mirra Andreeva in three sets in the quarterfinals.

Anisimova will take on fellow American and top 10 player Jessica Pegula in the semifinals. The latter has won all four of their previous meetings, including their most recent contest at last month’s Australian Open.
