Athletic excellence goes beyond just football at Texas, which just saw 12 players selected in the 2025 NFL Draft.
The program is seeing success in every sport, from basketball to baseball, and head coach Steve Sarkisian is loving it.

Longhorns Baseball Earns Steve Sarkisian’s Praise as Texas Athletics Continues to Dominate National Rankings
During his annual visit to the Touchdown Club of Houston, Sarkisian took a moment to shout out first-year baseball head coach Jim Schlossnagle, who took over the program in June 2024 after leading Texas A&M to a College World Series finals loss, following the firing of David Pierce.
“I’d be remiss if I didn’t talk about what Slosh is doing with the baseball program,” Sarkisian said. “That was an awesome series sweep that they had this weekend. They continue to roll on and I think that just speaks to where Texas Athletics is right now, too. A ton of credit to CDC. But I think of our 21 sports right now, nine of them this year have been ranked number one in the country, which is pretty incredible when you look at it on that front. A lot of really cool things happening.
“Obviously the month of May for us is a unique month, with all of our coaches hitting the road recruiting today, me getting an opportunity to do things like this, the players wrapping up school and finals and then having a little time off before we come back in June. So it’s kind of that, the seasons right, we go with the seasons. So we’re in the traditional phase right now.”
Longhorns baseball is coming off a disappointing 36-24 record in 2024, which saw them finish third in the Big 12 and go 1-2 in the NCAA College Station Regional, failing to qualify for the Regional Final.

This year has been the complete opposite. The Longhorns are sitting pretty at 38-5 on the season and the No. 1 overall team in the country.
