Connor Stalions’ Surprise Attendance at NCAA Hearing Raises Questions About His Testimony

The case of the NCAA against the University of Michigan over alleged sign-stealing had a bit of a twist on Friday, June 6, as former assistant coach Connor Stalions appeared at the scheduled hearing before the Division I Committee on Infractions.

The sighting was reported by Sports Illustrated reporter Pat Forde, who shared a photo of Stalions’ arrival in a post on X.

“Sorry to all interested parties, including myself, but the hearing is closed to the public and the media,” he wrote in the post. “It would be surprising for someone who stonewalled investigators to show up at the hearing,” Forde noted in another article, adding, “However, if Stalions wants to coach in college again, and defend Michigan, that could explain it.”

Stalions is the figure at the center of the spying allegations, notoriously showing up dressed as a staffer of the Central Michigan Chippewas on the sidelines during their 2023 season-opening game against the Michigan State Spartans.

Stalions is believed to have purchased tickets to numerous games involving the Wolverines’ opponents, potentially gathering signals from over 50 games over a three-year span.

While sign-stealing isn’t explicitly prohibited by the NCAA, its bylaw 11.6.1 prohibits “off-campus, in-person scouting of future opponents” as Stalions is alleged to have done.

His presence adds more drama to a high-stakes case that could greatly impact the Wolverines’ 2025 season.

Head coach Sherrone Moore is already set to miss the first two games after being suspended by Michigan, and former head coach Jim Harbaugh had resigned from the program prior to the 2024 season to coach the NFL’s Los Angeles Chargers.

Their national championship is not in danger of being vacated, but other punishments might be in store.
