The Colorado offensive line struggled against Georgia Tech during their season opener at Folsom Field on Friday, even after a slow start to the Yellow Jackets’ offense. However, there was some light of hope out there for the Buffaloes, and that is kicker Alejandro Mata.
Mata scored the first field goal of the night for Deion Sanders’ squad, as the rest of the team struggled on offense. He did it again in the third quarter, scoring yet another field goal from 29 yards, as the team struggled to get up the field.
This soon got the attention of Colorado’s former QB1, Shedeur Sanders, now in the NFL and playing for the Cleveland Browns. The son of Buffs head coach Deion Sanders praised Mata for his field goal scoring, as his successor as Colorado QB1, Kaidon Salter, struggled along with the offensive line.
“Good kick mata,” said Shedeur Sanders, still following his alma mater.

Alejandro Mata is now in his senior year and was impressive in Friday’s game. As for Kaidon Salter, he did well, but the rest of the Colorado offense struggled, despite having a strong 7-0 start.
Georgia Tech soon got its bearings and ended the first half, leading 13-10. It was Mata who tied things up late in the third quarter with his field goal kick, though the Yellow Jackets soon took back the lead with less than a minute remaining in the quarter.

Kaidon Salter Has Some Big Shoes To Fill as Colorado Buffaloes QB1
Kaidon Salter was a transferee from Liberty University and came to Boulder with plenty of experience. He got the opening day starting nod from Deion Sanders, who chose him over five-star freshman Julian Lewis, who came in with a lot of hype as the future of Colorado.
Salter has some big shoes to fill, as his predecessor, Shedeur Sanders, was one of the most prolific throwers in college football last year, throwing over 907 passes, clearing 7,300 yards, and having 64 touchdowns. He was so good in the passing game that he was behind 80% of Colorado’s offense last year.
In contrast, Salter is more of a mobile quarterback, better suited for a rushing type of play rather than Sanders’ passing game. He had 2,006 yards rushing and 21 scores on 5.7 yards per carry for Liberty as a quarterback.
