Amid Paige Shiver, Sherrone Moore Saga, Michigan Interim Coach Biff Poggi Reveals Teams True Stance On Former Head Coach

Michigan Wolverines interim head coach Biff Poggi revealed the state of the team after head coach Sherrone Moore’s firing last week, followed by his alleged invasion of the house of a Michigan staff member, who is reportedly named Paige Shiver. Moore was fired for having an inappropriate relationship with her.

After his dismissal was announced, the head coach went to Shiver’s home and threatened to harm himself. The authorities have since taken him into custody, and he has been arraigned in court for two misdemeanor charges and a felony home invasion charge.

Ahead of Michigan’s Citrus Bowl matchup in Orlando against the Texas Longhorns on Dec. 31, Poggi revealed the feelings student-athletes are facing in the aftermath of these developments. He didn’t mince words and said that several of them are feeling betrayed.

“Unique and complex,” Poggi said in Orlando. “Multiple levels of complexity that our young people are dealing with, our university is dealing with, our athletic director, Warde Manuel, is dealing with. And our team, our kids. I don’t know that you can prepare for something like this. I’ll just say, complicated.”

“It has been a tumultuous time,” Poggi added. “A lot of anger. First, disbelief, and then anger, and really what we’re in right now is the phase of the kids, quite frankly, feel quite betrayed. We’re trying to work through that.”

Michigan Interim HC Biff Poggi Reveals How He’s Dealing With Student Athletes

To deal with the aftermath of this situation, Biff Poggi is making personal efforts to understand the feelings of each and every student-athlete in his football program.

“I’ve met individually with all of the players multiple times, and with the parents,” the Michigan coach said. “Zoomed with the parents multiple times. The message has been listening. I want to listen to them. I want to understand what the kids are feeling and what their parents are feeling. And so, a lot of listening, and there have been a wide range of emotions, as you can imagine, and we kind of are going through those steps. They’re not over yet, and I don’t expect them to be over for a while, quite frankly.”

Poggi also shared that Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel asked him to take care of these kids. The program is gearing up for its Citrus Bowl matchup against Texas at Camping World Stadium.
