“No One Likes To Lose”- Omaha Supernovas’ Sydney Hilley Gets Real on Team’s Three Consecutive Losses

Omaha Supernovas’ Sydney Hilley reflected on her team’s form after their three back-to-back losses in the 2026 volleyball season. The setter affirmed that her team is focused on improving its performance in the upcoming matches.

The Supernovas started their season on a strong note, securing victories in the first two matchups of the tournaments. Their opening match was against the San Diego Mojo, where they registered a 3-0 sweep. Similarly, in the second match, they prevailed over Columbus Fury 3-1 on January 10.

Their losing streak began with their third match, against the Atlanta Vibe. Their latest loss came in their fifth clash, against the Columbus Fury on January 22 at the CHI Health Center. The latter dominated the first, second, and fourth sets to win 3-1 (25-23, 25-22, 19-25, 25-21).

Hilley, who registered 2 kills, 2 blocks, 6 digs, and 55 assists in the match, spoke to the media after their latest outing. She was questioned about her team’s three consecutive losses, to which she replied:

“Yeah, no one likes to lose. We just talked about it in the locker room, but I mean, in this league you got to take every game one at a time, and it’s kind of like when you’re playing volleyball, you try to take everything one point at a time and not let errors or losses carry over, and we know that every single match, whether we win or lose, we can learn something from it, and I think we’ve been doing a good job of reflecting and going into practice.”

“Just every single person is staying for extra reps after practices; like, everyone knows that they can do something a little bit better, and I think we’re just gonna keep working to get 1% better every single chance we get so that we can get some momentum here,” said Sydney Hilley.

When Omaha Supernovas’ Sydney Hilley Shared Her Experience of Competing at the Athletes Unlimited Pro Volleyball Championship Season

Omaha Supernovas‘ Sydney Hilley finished her 2025 season after competing at the Athletes Unlimited Pro Volleyball Championship, which took place from October 1 to November 2. This tournament is an athlete-centric format that differs from traditional pro leagues. Here, 44 top international and US players compete, but not as fixed teams.

Hilley appeared on the “Joncast Podcast” on October 29, where she discussed her experience at the event. Expressing her delight at playing with a lot of strong players and calling it ‘fun,’ she said (0:57 onwards):

“So far so good. We’re about halfway through. So, our first two weeks of matches were in Omaha, Nebraska, and then we finished our last two here in Madison. So, it’s really awesome to be back here. Uh, AU is just a whirlwind. It’s 44 athletes. You’re all ranked one through 44 based on points, like stats and game wins and losses, and teams change every week.”
“So, it’s kind of crazy, but you get to play with a lot of great athletes. I think we have eight Olympians and 28 girls who have played for their national team. So, it’s really high-level volleyball. Um, but as a setter, you have to learn how to set like 30 different people. So, it’s challenging, but it’s really fun,” she added.
Sydney Hilley finished 10th overall on the final leaderboard with 2,226 points at the AU volleyball championships. The first place was secured by Jordan Thompson, who garnered 3,563 points.
