Legendary Gymnastics Hall of Fame coach Laurent Landi has bagged the associate head coach position for the Georgia GymDogs under his wife, head coach Cécile Canqueteau-Landi’s staff, for the 2026-27 season. This marks a new era for the GymDogs, as the move has reunited the elite coaching duo, sparking enormous excitement across the gymnastics community, and has got their former student, Simone Biles, reacting with complete awe.
It all started back in 2024 when Georgia hired the former artistic gymnast, Cecile Canqueteau-Landi, as the head coach alongside Ryan Roberts. At the time, Cecile was concluding her time with the program after having guided Simone Biles through her Paris Olympic run. After Roberts left for Auburn, Landi remained the head coach until May 12, when the university announced the hiring of Laurent Landi as the assistant coach to raise the bar of performance.
Simone Biles took to her social media to commemorate the reunion with a picture of Laurent covered with an overlay of the GymDogs’ jersey. She wrote:
Go dawgs. Congrats @laurentlandigyms !!!!

The coaching duo has produced some of the greatest gymnastic representations in the world with Simone Biles, Jordan Chiles, and 13 USA Women’s Senior National Team members. The pair had guided Biles to win three golds at the 2024 Olympics and a team gold and an individual bronze for Jordan Chiles.
Biles joined the Landis coaching group back in 2017 and has since formed a personal relationship with the couple, calling their partnership beyond athletics.
Laurent Landi Gives a Statement on His New Position
Laurent Landi’s entry as an assistant coach has sparked excitement as the Georgia Gym Dogs are now expected to raise champions under his elite guidance. Accepting the position, Landi gave a statement on how much it means to be part of a program that has a tradition of upholding great values, alongside highlighting his love for reuniting with his wife in a professional capacity that will help make a difference in the lives of many aspiring gymnasts.
“I’m incredibly honored to join a program with such a strong tradition and limitless potential,” Landi said. “The opportunity to work with Cecile again is something I’m truly excited about, and I look forward to helping push UGA to even greater heights,” said Laurent.
The Landi couple boasts an elite resume of having trained some of the greatest modern gymnasts in American history, and with the upcoming reunion, the expectations for the GymDogs for the upcoming season are at an all-time high.
