“Travis Smith is a Problem” – Nico Iamaleava Raves About Tennessee’s Freshman WR

Travis Smith Making an Immediate Impact

Smith, a highly touted four-star recruit, has wasted no time showcasing his talent. During Tennessee’s latest practice, he displayed his combination of size, speed, and hands, making several tough catches against defenders.

Iamaleava, who is entering his first full season as Tennessee’s starting quarterback, was clearly impressed, saying, “Travis just makes my job easier. He’s got the size, the hands, and he’s physical. He’s going to be a problem for defenses.”

At 6-foot-4, Smith brings much-needed size to Tennessee’s receiving corps. His ability to high-point the ball and outmuscle defenders makes him a potential red-zone weapon for Iamaleava.

Tennessee’s coaching staff has also taken notice, with one assistant saying, “Travis is ahead of where we expected him to be. He’s picking up the offense quickly and showing he can contribute right away.”

While Smith stole some of the spotlight, several other Vols made an impact in practice:

    • Nico Iamaleava’s Growth – The sophomore QB continues to show poise and confidence, commanding the offense with precision.
    • Mike Matthews Flashing Again – Another freshman wideout, Matthews continues to impress with his route-running and explosiveness.
    • Defensive Intensity – Tennessee’s secondary played aggressively, testing the young receivers throughout the session.
