Alex Carpenter has been one of the biggest faces of American women’s ice hockey. For years, she was the only vocal out LGBTQ+ representative on the team. Her laurels include winning seven IIHF World Championships and two silver medals at the Sochi and Beijing Games.
Carpenter is married to hockey equipment manager Steph Klein, who is currently attached to the American Hockey League (AHL) team the Toronto Marlies. The couple got engaged right before the 2022 Olympics and married the following year in Hawaii. While specific details of their meetups aren’t known to the public, it is expected that the two sharing the professional hockey sphere got the couple together.
Carpenter and Team USA are looking to win gold this year. Their matchup against Team Canada will be the most anticipated as both teams have won gold medals at every Winter Olympics since women’s hockey was introduced. Carpenter has scored four points, including two goals, in four Olympic contests against Team Canada.
When Alex Carpenter Opened up About Her Favorite Hockey Memory
Last year, in an exclusive interview with Warrior Hockey, Alex Carpenter opened up about the time she got into the sport. She credited her father’s influence on getting her into professional sport.
“My dad would build us rinks and we’d get to go out all the time and just play,” Carpenter said last year. “We’d have so many friends over from our teams and it would be full on five-on-five with three subs and all that. We would have a big crowd out there until one or two in the morning in the backyard.”
The fourth all-time PWHL points scorer has put US women’s hockey on the map. But a gold medal has evaded her. She wasn’t on the team when the Americans stood on the top step of the podium at the 2018 Olympics. With all eyes on them, they will surely look to bring home the gold from Milan Cortina.
