After winning Game 5, the Boston Bruins have finally made the breakthrough and gained momentum in their series against the Buffalo Sabres. This was a massive win for Boston, which came due to David Pastrnak’s goal at 9:14 into overtime. With this victory, Boston is able to stay in the playoffs and end their two-game losing run.

On the other hand, this is simply a small setback for the Sabres. They have already won three games in the series and are now trying to seal the round with one more win and go forward. Despite leading the series, the Buffalo will still face a difficult challenge in Game 6 because they will be heading to the TD Garden, giving Boston the home ice advantage.

The Bruins will have a terrific chance to maintain their momentum and potentially force a Game 7 in the series. The Game 6 between these two teams will start at 7 p.m. ET on Friday, May 1. Fans who want to watch the game can do so through the following channels:

    In the USA:

    • TV channels: TNT, truTV
    • Live streams: DIRECTV

    In Canada:

    • TV channel: NESN

    • Live stream: NESN 360, fubo

After blowout losses to the Sabres in Games 3 and 4, the Bruins’ situation appeared to be dire. However, in Game 5, the team was able to maintain the tight scoreboard for practically the whole game, and David Pastrnak clinched the victory for them. Interestingly, this was Pastrnak’s second overtime goal of his career, and both were set up by Elias Lindholm’s assist.

The Buffalo Sabres were almost untouchable in 2025-26, winning the Atlantic Division. They came up on top with 109 points in 82 games. Boston, on the other hand, has qualified for the playoffs as the Eastern Conference’s first wild-card club. They finished fourth in the Atlantic Division, scoring 100 points in 82 games.

Boston’s head coach, Marco Sturm, discussed his team’s performance during a post-round press conference. There, he argued that this is the game that the Bruins had played all year to get to the playoffs. Sturm emphasized that the team’s performance suffered a minor setback that occurred at the worst possible time, but now that they are back, they will want to continue this.

According to the NHL’s official website, Sturm stated,

“So much better tonight. We’ve seen it all year from our guys. We just had to wait a little bit, unfortunately, at the wrong time, but today you could see it. One goal against on the (penalty kill), that’s it. That’s more us. That made us good this year, that made us to be part of the playoffs, and we just got to remember ourselves. That’s the way we have to play.”

From here, Boston will seek to maintain their momentum and achieve another major win in Game 6 to force a tiebreaker in Game 7.
